Robot Combat 101

New to the sport? Want to learn as much as you can? Well you've come to the right place. Honestly, the best place to learn about building combat robots is the internet and especially by going to events. On the right is the best links to online forums (chats) that deal with robot fighting.

We are the only combat robot event in Ontario, and one of only a few competitions in all of Canada. If you are in the Toronto area, be sure to check out our next competition and enter a bot.

Robot Gear

One of the best places to start is at your local R/C hobby shop. You'll need a radio, some motors, possibly speed controllers, and a body. Thats all there is to it. Most people start out with two hacked servos for drive, 2 wheels, and a receiver, thats it. It might be slow and ineffective, but it will get you started.

If you are really interested in participating,  come to our next meeting and learn how to get started and maybe join the club.

Online Forums

The TRFC Forum
Come check us out first, we usually have unofficial meetings every month or so, and you'll only hear about them here. Plus you can ask any questions you want and get answers quick!

The Official RFL Forum
The Official Forum of the Robot Fighting League.

The Antweight Forum
Deals with all things Ants and Beetles (1 lb. and 3 lb. bots)

Note about forum use: Please be careful when posting in forums other than ours, some forums don't take nicely to new people asking questions like "How do I build a robot?", or "Can someone sponsor me?". There is usually a "Newbie" area in most forums, so please only post there until you are comfortable with everything, and keep your posts specific. Just a word of advice :-)
